Why I love my job

I enjoy the dynamism and diversity of entrepreneurship, particularly in new emerging industries. It is rewarding to develop relationships with my clients which improve control over their businesses by sharing my knowledge and expertise gained by having been around the block. There is a buzz to Gannons which rubs off.

I like to encourage creativity, skill and talent where there is potential for wealth and job creation.

Professional memberships and affiliations

  • Solicitor
  • Society for Computers and the Law
  • Member of the Civil Mediation Council

I apply my 30 years’ plus experience in providing commercial legal services to SMEs and their investors across a variety of problems. The immense upheaval in the legal services industry in recent years has required a flexible approach when dealing with increasingly digital clients with high expectations who want consistent experiences.

GDPR and privacy

Many of our clients’ businesses are data driven.  There are areas of data protection compliance where the law is very uncertain which is bad for business – we help our clients to form a view so that they do not fall foul of the requirements.  Areas I am often involved with include:

  • Measures needed to satisfy the GDPR on data transfers into and out of the UK
  • Privacy Notices and Policies
  • Reviewing commercial agreements involving data transfers
  • I am seeing an increasing number of instructions revolving around data theft, misuse of personal data and confidential information.

Nearly every business these days has technology at its heart.  Every day I deal with technology of some shape or form be it:

  • Software agreements and protection of the IP rights created
  • Planning for the exit – review of contracts, GDPR and other matters which will crop up on the due diligence review
  • Resolving  technology disputes to stop the case getting really nasty and out of control

To scale and not fail an innovative business needs to protect and make the most of its creative assets.

We assist with:

  • Intellectual property disputes, including passing off, copyright infringement and trade mark infringement
  • Trade mark – registration and oppositions
  • Design rights – registered and unregistered
  • Trade secrets and protecting them though confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements
  • Domain Name disputes
  • Software and IT contracts
  • Software Development, Licensing and Distribution

Hospitality and Leisure

I have for many years assisted clients in the hospitality and leisure industry, including:

  • the sale or purchase of hotels, restaurants and bars
  • acting for restaurant and hotel operators, restaurateurs and celebrity chefs
  • brand protection
  • licencing
  • funding

Partnerships and LLPs

I have experience of all aspects of the relationship between partners and LLP members, including:

  • Partnership and LLP Agreements
  • Forming a Partnership or Joint Venture
  • Partnership Disputes
  • Suspending or expelling a partner

Shareholder and partnership disputes

People in business continue to fall out and resolving disputes between shareholders and partners continues to be busy. I look for the path to resolving disputes rather than litigation but will litigate if necessary. Years of experience helps me understand the relationships and pressure points which are aids to effective and speedy resolution

Clients invariably prefer to resolve disputes without costly and lengthy litigation.

As a qualified mediator I am able to provide businesses with a simple low-cost method of resolving a wide range of disputes out of court.
